Facebook has (once again) changed their "algorithms"
for how data shows up in our newsfeed; and the fall out
this time has some abandoning their Facebook
pages
in droves.
The reality is - if you want to do business on Facebook
using your business page, as opposed to your personal
profile, you are going to have to "pay to play!"
And, it makes sense, because after all, Facebook is
a social site, primarily. (Or is it? One wonders now that
it is publicly traded and needs advertising dollars
to
make money, right? Well, that explains it then!)
In an official Facebook document, they state -
"We expect organic distribution of an individual page's
post to gradually decline over time, as we continually
work to make sure people have a meaningful experience
on the site."
So, what now?
Here is how I have always looked at it -
I joined Facebook before Business or Fan Pages existed,
so I learned very early on how to use my Personal Profile
to create a solid mix of Personal, Social AND business mix.
What that means it that I sponsor people regularly through my
PERSONAL Facebook profile just by "being me", like I would
if I walked into the local Pub, or a holiday party, and so on.
Now, I want to share something I
strongly believe, because
like anything you don't own, you can't put all of your eggs in
"The Facebook Basket!"
Why?
Well, would YOU build your home on rented land?
Probably not, right? You could invest a fortune only
to have it ripped away from you at any time.
That's the challenge when you do everything on
Facebook, or any Social Media site.
As a Network Marketer, what if Facebook decides
they don't like your content? After all, they are pretty
picky about the words you can use in your paid ads
for your Facebook
Page,
Squidoo did away with ALL "lenses" on its social
site that mentioned M L M or Network Marketing
a few years back. And, there were some who had
built a lucrative following and lead generation source
that literally evaporated over night.
And, don't forget MySpace, for crying out loud!
So, I come back to my same mantra
-
Build a blog, build a list, build ANY type of
content online that YOU own, and will remain
standing no matter what the social media
climate is.
Then, use social media in the way it was
intended - as a MARKETING funnel that
drives traffic back to your own hub of the
universe - that blog and list!
And, don't throw the baby out with the
bath
water. Facebook is still fantastic, but
you must know what you are doing.
Work on your business page and getting the
word out there, but realize that, according to
Facebook's own numbers, only about 16% of your
fans will see your content organically.
Yikes, if you have 500 followers, that is
only 80 people, if you are LUCKY, and
probably less, honestly.
If you have money to
spend, do some
post boosts, promoted posts, and regular
ads. (I would personally focus more on
boosts and promoted posts than ads!)
DON'T pay for fans, though. That is money wasted!
It's a known fact that Facebook always
favors
personal posts by profile pages vs. business
pages in their newsfeed.
Now, I do focus on my business page as well
as my profile, and I figure I have 3 ways to
get my message out in front of my target audience
and potential target audience.
That's through my friends, my followers on my
personal profile, and my business page
fans.
Why would I miss any of those opportunities?
And, if you want to know how to create a raving
base of fans through your OWN PERSONAL
profile, without losing your friends, let's talk about that.
Most people think about Facebook and their business
and tend to view it as an advertising platform.
They loudly blast out the link to their company
opportunity call; preach on about how their company
is in "Pre Launch" with THE BEST EVER
COMP PLAN
and every Olympic athlete is endorsing the products...
And, so on......
And, what happens? They lose the very people they
really want to attract. The get blocked in the newsfeed or
unfriended....
When you posts content in a way that is interesting
and intriguing, you become the HUNTED and not the
HUNTER.
You
get people coming to you.
When you make direct invitations for people to
contact you, after you share a status update
that paints a vision and a picture of how life
can be when there is no stress over a boss,
the finances, sick days and so on, you will
get people contacting you.
And, remember that old acronym FORM?
Family, Recreation, Occupation and Money
When was the last time you paid attention to
what your friends are sharing in THEIR status
updates that let you know there is some pain
there....a need that perhaps your business
might fill.
When you see these updates, what do you do?
The best thing is to reach out in a private message
and begin to
ask questions. DON'T go for the juggler
vein by sharing details and a link right away.
Start a "ping pong match", asking questions and
determining if there might be a fit, and then lead
with that golden question....
If I, would you.....
And, make sure you are using Groups and other
Pages that fit into your exact target market and
making great connections there. This dramatically
expands your reach!
So, Facebook isn't dead....at
least not for you
and me, when we know and do it RIGHT!
