How I Conquered my fear of the phone

Do you struggle with picking up the phone?

 


What is it that can make something so small seem so scary? We've used the phone for years, and most of us use it every day, but when it comes to calling someone to invite them to take a look at our business, we can really be a baby about it, right?


I had this same phobia and fear - for a long time in my business. Once I listened to someone who was having the results I WANTED make phone calls, I realized what my problem was -

I was saying too much. I was trying to explain everything about my business to my prospect in one conversation, instead of using simple inviting techniques, and then turning it over to the tools.

Have you ever done this? Gone on and on about this patent; or that celebrity endorsement, and so on? 

Here's the reality, if you don't know WHY your prospect might be interested in a business; if you have not become a "problem solver" instead of a sales person; all of the positive press, and star fleet commander bonuses in the world won't matter.


So, here are a few tips to help you -

1. Remember, you have a 100% success rate when you just GET a DECISION. You aren't looking for a "sign up" in that first conversation. Just a yes, no or maybe to taking a look at what you offer.

2. When you let people know WHY you thought of them, by saying -

"I thought of you because....."


You increase your odds of getting a YES to taking a look by 75%.

3. When you ask a simple question - WHY - when they agree to take a look, you get them in touch with their reason or challenge that your business might fill.


All of this creates much more of an interest with your prospect than just going on and on about how great this new business is.
