When we start our business, we are
so excited, and we expect that others are
going to be excited, too, right?
They are going to "see" what we see...
And, then they don't...
Here is what I learned, even though
I didn't want to hear it....
"Most salesmen make the big mistake of
over-selling a product to people who don't
want
one.
I don't want to jam a pen down the throat of
someone who doesn't want a pen.
So I would ask you if you might be in the
market for a pen, and if so, what type of pen
you use.
I want to establish your specific needs, and
then tailor my sales questions to those
needs. 'Until a need is recognized, it
doesn't matter how great a product is."
In other words - what we must do is find
out if our prospect is even LOOKING
or
INTERESTED in what we have...
It's kind of like dating, really, when you think
about it.
Even after I heard it, it took me a long time to
figure it out..
Not everybody you come across is ready
to
work with you.
Maybe they're not in a good place mentally.
Or maybe they have ZERO time right now.
(Yes, that actually does happen to people...
regardless of always hearing how we have to 'make
time.' Real life does get in the way sometimes)
The cool thing about marketing online is
that you now have the chance to:
Allow those who DO have time and ARE
looking for what you offer to find you...
Allow those who have already seen what you
have, but weren't
ready before to NOW
raise their hand and say YES!
And it's why you need to:
Build a blog that works for you 24/7
Grow and nuture an email list
of those
interested, now and later
Deliver CONTENT that helps 'me'..
and builds a relationship with 'me'
So that you can gain 'my' trust.
So that when 'I' AM ready... I'm coming to you..
How would that feel?
A whole lot different than the desperados
who are trashing Facebook with their
hype and links.
Imagine who they attract anyway? More
people who trash
Facebook and our
profession in this way.
